Contemporary Art Workshops
Louise Victor: Working with Abstraction (video workshop)
Be a participant in this in-depth, 6-hour long workshop taught by artist Louise Victor. Louise introduces you and the other workshop attendees how to abstract and dissect forms and find structure by using a still life arranged in the center of the classroom. Through both lecture and demos, you will learn about developing a personal formal vocabulary and ways to visually describe space and movement. Different techniques of abstraction are discussed and practiced, using art history as a guide, such as negative space, overlap, color and texture. Extensive lecture and visual examples are used as you "sit in" and observe this intellectually provocative workshop.
This workshop was filmed entirely during a live, in-person workshop at Jen Tough Gallery's studio space in the Bay Area of California in 2019. You'll feel like part of the class, with plenty of overhead and observational camera angles, studio action and student dialog.
This workshop video is good for artists with basic experience and exposure to art history, or new artists interested in learning some fundamentals of abstraction. This workshop has numerous art historical and theoretical references and extensive lecture, along with foundational studio practice using a still life.
